"Heteronormative structures have spawned my investigation of the “Sissy Boyhood” of young gay men and the evolving relationship of my coming to terms with this identity as a painter. I have defined “Sissy Boyhood” as loving the feminine world and objects associated with femininity, while being a cisgender man. “Sissy Boyhood” is an emotional state of being, from which I take an emotional, autobiographical, and diaristic stance toward the male figure. This is a strategy to interrogate preconceived notions of power, judgment, and criticism of hierarchal structures that often times infantilize and villainize “Sissy Boys” for the sake of protecting and upholding the status quo.”
