INACTION - 2019

"Inaction”, a sculptural and performance-based art installation that investigates the political and social implications of the queering of a space, where tensions are at play between freedom and oppression.

The performances throughout the exhibition include call and response games and hide-and-seek inspired choreographies, working to activate the allegory between physical and political forms of resistance.

Choreographed by Brendan Fernandes and dancers body costumed by Rad Hourani, in collaboration with the architecture firm Norman Kelley to create mobile dance supports and platforms for activation by the audience and dancers. The choreography guide the dancers to interact with the minimalist, sculptural installations giving them agency to rearrange the sculptures allowing new spaces in which to create movements and to be seen or unseen in the exhibition space.

co-curated by Benjamin Chaffee and Rosemary Lennox at Wesleyan University’s Ezra and Cecile Zilkha Gallery
